The Modern Rome Is Burning

July 16, 2008

You ever love it when you buy an album and it does what it’s suppose to do? You know, make you like the whole thing and not just the singles while the rest is crap? I’ve had the fortune of getting that two albums in a row and it’s quite a satisfying feeling. I feel like the money I spent, was well deserved and I’m not bitter about it at all!

First, I bought the new Anti-Flag album “Bright Lights of America” and the entire CD is of excellent quality! Obviously with Anti-Flag it’s more of an…acquired taste, not something most people would pick up and enjoy right away. I’m particularly fond of The Modern Rome is Burning. What an excellent song!

Next, I had one of my lovely employees at work purchase the new Alkaline Trio album for me (They are my favorite band)! I can’t stop listening to it! I found a review that had an interesting description of the album, that kinda fits. The review said “It’s like The Killers are covering The Misfits.” as the music is very poppy, upbeat, and pleasent while the lyrics are dark, brooding, and creepy sometimes.

I’d suggest listening to “I Found Away” on the album “Agony & Irony”.

So…any of you recently purchase a CD that you can’t stop listening to?

I’ve been enjoying the Anti-Flag disc myself, but I just can’t get into Alkaline Trio, no matter how hard you push them on me. :P

I haven’t picked up any CDs since Gnarls Barkely’s “The Odd Couple”, which has been something that I’ve just rotated the fuck out of. ‘Open Book’ gets the blood flowing through my veins and my spirit racing.

You conclude the entry with an excellent question. It kind of depresses me, actually. In high school, my passion was music. I went to local shows every weekend, and bought at least one new CD a week from Zia. I was always discovering new bands and new lyrics that spoke to me. But for the longest time now, I haven’t given myself any outlets. All I’ve been listening to is old mix CDs I made myself years ago. I miss the feeling of hearing a song for the first time and just connecting with it.
I seriously think the last time I bought a CD I couldn’t stop listening to, I was a senior in high school.
    Sad.

I used to be violently passionate about my sounds. I bought hundreds of CDs in high school and would have the “Greatest band ever!” debates with anyone who would have them with me. Now I just don’t care much. I suppose I still listen to a lot of new music, but with nowhere near the fervor as before. I suppose I should fix that, since I work at a radio station now.

Valerie- I was the same way in high school..but I am 3 years out of the hell hole and am still finding fantastic music every which way I turn ;) It’s not too hard, esp with endless resources here on the internet. Tell me some bands you like and maybe I’ll recommend some artists to you if you’re interested!

Sharp- dude.. highly agree with your last sentence. Fix it! haha

Now…to my original goal here: Mr. Gotham Ghost!- Since I see you are into A3…I suggest you take a listen to War Tapes. They’re offering a free download of their song, “Dreaming of You”. You can snag it here: http://sarathan.com/free/wartapes ..Feel free to post it and share with others you think might enjoy it!

    cheers,
    Katy
