Transhuman
July 15, 2008
If you’re read and enjoyed Nightly News and/or Pax Romana, you’d probably enjoy this book and you’re probably a Jonathan Hickman fan as well!
Admittedly, it was tough for me to get into it. The first 3 or 4 pages were dull and I wasn’t sure what tone the book was attempting to take. Perhaps I’m just slow in this case?
After I pressed through the slow start I really started getting into it. I can equate it pretty equally with starting a new book and digging it more and more as you turned the pages.
When I finished the book, I wanted to read the second issue immediately. I ended up loving the style of the book! I thought it felt very much like a documentary film, which I’m sure is the point.
The art isn’t really my style, but only so many artists can force me to put a book down, this is not the case with this book. It was somewhat smooth and characters where easy to identify and it lead the story pretty well.
Ultimately, what hooked me on the book was the premise of two corporations and how they rise to greatness using genetic research each from a different view point. I like the idea that both of these companies have uniquely created a superior race of humans that they call Transhumans since they can easily transcend normal human qualities.
I really want to see where they are going with this.
